Le travail photographique proposé ici par Jean-Paul Matifat repose sur l'errance et le cheminement. Il décline un objet singulier que l'artiste nomme « Miroirs-Mondes ». Les « Miroirs-Mondes » sont de grands miroirs convexes d'environ soixante centimètres d'envergure ronds ou rectangulaires, fixés aux murs ou accrochés à des poteaux. Ils sont présents aux carrefours des chemins, sur les lieux de passages, aux entrées des propriétés. Facilement repérables, ils sont souvent installés sur des panneaux rayés noir et blanc. Ces « Miroirs-Mondes » pourraient s'apparenter à de grands rétroviseurs urbains dont l'usage serait de pallier les angles morts. Point de seuil et point aveugle dans le paysage, ces objets qui se veulent pratiques et rationnels désignent cependant une réalité toute autre, révélant les signes du pouvoir, de la maîtrise et de la surveillance.
Photographiés invariablement par Jean-Paul Matifat tout au long de ses parcours ou de ses voyages depuis des années, le travail de prise de vue répond à trois conditions strictes : un recensement systématique de l'objet, un positionnement du photographe à la limite de l'image reflétée et un placement frontal devant le miroir. Trois contraintes qui conditionnent la nature finale du travail ; le principe étant que l'objet photographié impose son propre point de vue et détermine de manière catégorique l'image captée. Ce travail photographique constitue un inventaire méthodique du sujet en pointant des logiques de contrôle et de régulation à travers une réalité plastique pleine de poésie, d'architecture et de territoire.

The photographic work proposed here by Jean-Paul Matifat is based on wandering and tracking. It accepts a singular object that the artist calls "Mirrors Worlds." The "Mirror Worlds" convex mirrors are big, about 60 cm large, round or rectangular, attached to walls or hung from poles. They are present at the crossroads, on the premises of passages and property entrances. They are easily identifiable and they are often installed on panels, striped black and white. These "Mirrors-worlds" could be similar to large urban mirrors which would be used to compensate for blind spots. These objects are intended to be practical and rational as threshold points and blind spots in the landscape. In reality however, they reveal signs of power, control and monitoring.
These images were photographed by Jean-Paul Matifat throughout his career and his travels over the years. The work of shooting meets three strict conditions: a systematic survey of the subject, the photographer's positioning to limit the reflected image and direct effacement of the mirror. There are constraints that affect the final nature of the work. The principle being that the photographed object imposes its own point of view which determines the art form of the captured image. This photographic work is a methodical subject pointing towards the control of logic through a plastic reality, which is full of poetry, architecture, territory and neighborhood life.
